Red Velvet Cake

This deep red velvet cake with its velvety texture and a subtle flavor of cocoa is hidden under a snow white, luscious  vanilla-laced cream cheese frosting.

Recipe

Cake Batter:

4 oz of coco powder

2 oz of red food coloring

2 cups of flour

1 tsp of salt

2 tsps of distilled vinegar

2 tsps of baking soda

1 cup of room temperature butter

1 cup of sugar 

2 eggs

2 tsps of vanilla extract

1 cup of butter milk

Cake Frosting:

16 oz of room temperature cream cheese

 1/2 lb or 2 sticks of room temperature butter

1 lb or 4 cups of powdered sugar, sifted

2 to 3 tsps of vanilla (we used 3)

Cake Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

  2. 1 Mix together the coco powder and red food coloring then set aside

  3. Sift together flour and salt

  4. In a separate bowl mix together vinegar and baking soda then set aside

  5. Mix together butter, sugar, and eggs until smooth (2 to 3 minutes)

  6. Mix in red food coloring mixture

  7. Mix in vanilla extract

  8. Start alternating in the flour mixture and butter milk

  9. Next fold in your baking soda/vinegar mixture

  10. Grease and line cake pans with butter and parchment paper

  11. Add half the cake batter into each pan

  12. Bake for 30 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean

Frosting Instructions:

  1. Mix together cream cheese and butter until fluffy

  2. Add the sugar, 1 cup at a time

  3. Mix in the vanilla and beat until very smooth, 3 or more minutes

  4. Let stand at room temperature until soft and spreadable before using.
